The Region
Ottawa , Canada’s capital, is located at the border of Ontario and Quebec, facing the city of Gatineau. The region’s population is approximately 1.1 million and it is the most important bilingual region in Canada. Ottawa is located 200km from Montreal, 450km from Toronto and 800km from New York.
Quality of life
The city boasts one of the best qualities of life in the world. Studies have ranked Ottawa second in North America and sixth in the world for its quality of life. On top of its many parks and green spaces, it offers excellent summer and winter sports facilities. Ottawa is safe and clean and has an efficient public transportation system, as well as over 160km of cycle paths. The region has an important student population with five universities and two community colleges.
Market Place
Ottawa has the highest number of Ph.D.’s per capita in Canada. The Federal Government is the region’s main employer, notably hiring many workers in the field of social sciences for research, policy and communication positions. The region also counts many employers in the fields of IT and services as well as international organisations. In recent years, Ottawa has had of the highest economic and demographic growth rates in Canada.
Culture
All year, the National Capital region hosts numerous cultural events, both in English and in French. City of national museums, it is also an important center of creation for theatre, dance and music. During the summer, festivals attract thousands of people in the city’s streets and parks.
The great outdoors
Ottawa is located in an exceptional geographical site, at the confluent of three rivers. It is just south of the Gatineau Park, which has a rich fauna and flora, numerous lakes, typical of the Canadian shield. It’s a great place for summer and winter outdoor activities, or simply for contemplating the beauty of nature.
The Dominican University College
The College is located downtown, in a lively, multi-ethnic area, a few minutes from Parliament Hill and all services. It is close to the Transitway, a fast bus system that allows for moving around the city quickly. The Gatineau Park is 15 minutes away, with its lakes, lookouts and 200km of hiking and cross country trails.
